This page says what InterpDirect does, what you agree to by using it, and what we do not do. It is written to be read. If a sentence here and the product ever disagree, tell us: the product gets fixed, or the sentence does.
A directory and a booking tool. An interpreter has a page with their own rates, and a requester books them on it directly. The interpreting itself is agreed between the two of you: the interpreter sets the rate, decides whether to accept, and does the work. We provide the page, the request, the reminders and, when you choose it, the payment and the video room.
We do not employ interpreters, assign work, set or suggest rates, or take part in the service agreement between an interpreter and a requester. We are the tool it is made with.
Being listed is not membership. Interpreters whose names appear from a public roster have not joined anything; they can claim their page or ask to be removed, and a removal is permanent.
InterpDirect is run by a working interpreter. The registered name and address of the company behind it will be written here when the company is registered, which is in progress. Until then, the contact for anything on this page is hello@interpdirect.org.
There are no passwords. An interpreter’s own page, a requester’s bookings and a video room each open from a private link. Anyone holding your link can act as you on it, so keep it to yourself. If one leaks, write to us and we replace it.
Our fee is four dollars a session, flat, taken from the interpreter’s side when a session is paid through InterpDirect, and never added to what the requester pays. Pro is nineteen dollars a month and two dollars a session. During launch, while the first interpreters come in, the fee is not charged. The current figures are always on the front page.
When an interpreter and a requester settle directly, in cash, by bank transfer or any other way, nothing passes through us and we take nothing.
Card payments are made through Stripe, directly to the interpreter’s own Stripe account. We never hold anybody’s money. A refund returns our fee with it.
Today the product has no cancellation fee of its own. What a late cancellation costs is for the interpreter to state in their rate or at booking, and for the two of you to agree.
Each of you is responsible for your own taxes in your own country. We do not withhold anything and we do not file for you.
A video session gets its own room, which we host through a provider and which opens in a browser with nothing to install. We do not record sessions. The connection is yours: a call is only as good as the weaker of its two ends, and the interpreter decides whether it is good enough to continue. Our video standard says what the law requires for sign language and which part is ours.
What we never touch
Your documents. There is no place in InterpDirect to upload them, so we hold none. The only images we keep are photographs of a building’s entrance that you choose to post for the next interpreter, and a screenshot you send with a suggestion.
Your bank and card details. Card payments run through Stripe, which holds the account and card numbers. What we keep is a Stripe account reference and three yes/no flags: whether the account can take payments, pay out, and has finished its forms.
Your clients. A booking stores the requester’s name, email and organisation, because the request has to reach you and the requester has to be told your answer. Those details exist for that booking and for your own records on your page. We do not sell them, share them, or contact your requesters for any purpose but that booking.
Our privacy page lists everything the database holds, table by table, and why. When that list changes, the page changes first.
Humans interpret. InterpDirect uses software, including AI tools, to help interpreters with the work around interpreting, and will keep doing so as the technology develops. It is never used to do the interpreting.
We may take down a page or refuse a request that impersonates someone, claims a credential that is not held, or uses the booking form to send anything but a booking. We tell the person concerned why.
We are responsible for the tool: that pages load, requests arrive, and what this page says is true. We are not responsible for the interpreting itself, for either person not turning up, or for an internet connection we do not own. To the extent the law allows, what we owe you for any failure of the tool is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before it.
The law that applies to these terms and the place where a dispute is heard will be written here when the company is registered. Until then, write to us first: most disagreements are a misunderstanding and are settled by email.
When these terms change in a way that matters, every interpreter with a claimed page is told by email before the change applies, and the date at the top of this page moves.
Anything about these pages: hello@interpdirect.org. Anything about your data: privacy@interpdirect.org.
